AlArabiya: Russia says it’s waiting to hear from US on Ukraine 30-day ceasefire plan

Moscow said today that “it needed to be briefed by the United States on the outcome of US-Ukrainian talks in Saudi Arabia before commenting on whether a proposed ceasefire in Ukraine was acceptable to Russia.”

Ukraine said on Tuesday to support a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US would now take the offer to Russia.

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, said Moscow expected to be briefed in the coming days by US Foreign Secretary Rubio and White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.

Peskov said that there might be another phone call between presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

With regard to a question about Moscow’s ceasefire conditions, Peskov said: “You are getting a little ahead of yourself. Yesterday, when talking to the press, both Rubio and Waltz said that they would pass on detailed information to us through various channels about the essence of the conversation that took place in Jeddah. First, we must receive this information.”

Russia expects American emissaries to arrive soon in Moscow. Then the Russian Government may be able to understand what the proposal for ceasefire really contains and how far away it is from the Russian ceasefire proposal of 2024.
