After the storm has settled and a few weeks passed, one may have the impression that the public dispute between V Selensky and Donald Trump, the public dissent, was used to allow Trump to get the image of an honest broker between the dissenting and obstructing Selensky on the one side, and on the other side, Vladimir Putin’s Russia. Trump became publicly a middleman, forcing Selensky to talk peace (which the Biden Administration never did). Trump “forced and blackmailed” Selensky with a stop of weapons and intel deliveries, wheres sources say that they never really stopped. At the same time, Trump’s Foreign Secretary declared that the war in Ukraine is a proxy war … this statement of Rubio may have been less welcome and the Western media did forget to report this as an important message. Now, in the public arena, Trump does want peace, and only peace, and positions himself as a broker for peace. But it must reminded that he is a broker only for US interests. As US is waging a proxy war in Ukraine. And US interests demand that there shall be peace in Ukraine now. This Obama/Biden originated conflict, the Project Ukraine, became too costly and too risky for the US. There is no further benefit to justify the costs. Project Ukraine is dead. The US under Trump will not throw good money after bad money and will consider the Ukraine efforts as sunk costs. It’s Obama/Biden’s failed policy, that’s simple. It’s time to make peace, but not on US expenses. Ukraine and other European states more exposed to the conflict shall bear the costs. Didn’t they happily follow Obama/Biden’s proxy war? So, for Trump, peace must be at any costs – as long as others pay for it. That’s clear, that’s fair, as peace will profit mainly Europe. Putin understood well Trump’s position and also Trump’s need to make peace in Ukraine as the peace is important for his political credibility and, eventually, his survival. And anybody who is against peace is against Trump. He will not tolerate warmongering by the US’ European allies. Trump will never protect European military involvement in Ukraine. Europe will do this alone, at unimaginable costs and risks if they chose so. So they will rather not. Trump wants business with Russia, a promising guarantee for normalization and peace. There are many rumors of US-Russian talks about cooperation on important projects, such as the Arctic, energy, transport (Nord Stream) etc. That’s Trump’s way: and Europe has to pay for it, maybe mainly those anti-Trump ideologically deranged governments that are still willing to form a coalition against Russia, which is in essence and intended to be a coalition against Trump. Trump may not be amused by such opposition, but in comparison to his first term, Europe is without any power to challenge Trump.
