“UK PM Starmer told reporters he was working with France and a small number of other nations to craft a plan to stop the fighting, which would then be presented to the US.” CNN reports. “The initial phase of a French-British alternative peace deal for Ukraine would involve a month-long “truce in the air, on the seas and energy infrastructures,” according to Macron speaking to the French outlet. The second phase, he said, would involve troops on the ground. CNN has reached out to Downing Street for comment. It appears that the UK was not happy with one month of ceasefire. Rival Peace Plan: as Europe was excluded by Donald Trump to participate in peace negotiations with Russia, UK, France and the EU are working on their own peace plan, as rivals to the US. It seems that their intention is to bypass the US and to exclusively deal with V Selensky. So far, the US reaction is to demand Selensky to resign. “But it would still require American support, Starmer again reiterated during a Sunday press conference.” Therefore, it is not clear what Europe wants: no US intervention in the negotiations with Russia, but US financial and military support for Ukraine and UK/EU troops on the ground? No say, but pay …? As Donald Trump said before: take it or leave … accept the US deal or “we are out”. It seems that Europe has the choice between being on their own (while US-Russia normalize their relationship), or follow the US lead in the negotiations with Russia at conditions set by the US. It would be a horror scenario if the UK or Europe are in direct military conflict with Russia while the US stay aside having normal relations with Russia. It is clear that neither the UK nor the Europeans will be able to force Donald Trump to any action that may not be in US interest. Same during Biden’s time: the US did not get involved directly and made painfully exactly clear that they would not transpass the red lines of a direct military confrontation. The scandalous behavior of Selensky during his visit to the White House which resulted in him being kicked out from the White House made a lot of media fuzz, provoked a lot of immediate travel and meeting activates by the Europeans, but did not result in either a peace plan nor in any concrete action plan as the European became aware that they will not be able to act united and, in particular, they are depending on US support and leadership. Was the Selensky clownesque last Friday a set-up to shame and isolate Trump? If so, it failed: there are only the usual US suspects (eg Democrat opposition and their media) supporting Selensky and the European PR campaign while the US political heavyweights all demand Selebsky’ resignation.
