CNN: UK announces increase in defense spending and cut in foreign aid ahead of PM Starmer’s meeting with Trump

Acxcorsing to CNN, UK PM Starmer announces: “The increase will be funded in part through a cut to international development spending, which will now fall from 0.5% of Britain’s GDP to 0.3% in the coming years, Starmer said that is not an announcement he is happy to make adding the defense increase “can only be funded through hard choices”.
PM Starmer is not coming to Washington empty handed. He is offering more than his European colleague President Macron did yesterday, who came with charm, but begging and demanding … and left with empty hands.
The good relationship US-UK is existential for the UK and for Europe. PM Starmer cannot otherwise than hailing it. It is expected that Donald Trump will receive PM Starmer with better mood and that Starmer’s visit will be positive for the UK. But Starmer shall not expect any further concession of Trump, no NATO troops to Ukraine, no security guarantees. Trump wants a quick peace in Ukraine without European conditions.
