Express: Macron ‘exploring alternatives’ to plan drafted with Starmer as cracks form in alliance: no boots on the ground, just air and sea defense

Express reports that: President “Emmanuel Macron is reportedly looking to break away from a Ukraine peace plan drafted with Sir Keir Starmer, instead looking to the United Nations (UN) for support. The French president tabled the idea during a European Council summit on Thursday.”
It seems that Macron would not like to see French soldiers in Ukraine, fighting side by side with the Ukrainian army. Macron refers instead to UN peacekeepers, which by definition must be neutral and can defend only themselves. UN peacekeepers need Russia’s approval as Russia is a member of the UN Security Council.
The Express writes: “Sir Keir may follow in Mr Macron’s footsteps and shift his focus towards defending Ukraine via air and sea support, which could see the RAF supplying British jets.
A first move away from the UK and France’s idea of fighting Russia on the battlefield in Ukraine. But an air and sea fight between Russia and UK/France will certainly also escalate into something horrible. The UK and France still have time think.
