French President Macron’s TV Speech in Response to US President Trump’s State of the Union Address

A day after President Trump held his State of the Union speech, President Macron formulated a response on the French TV.
Macron used this extra-ordinary format of a special TV speech to address to the French public with dire warnings and menaces.
Macron said in his speech that the US under Donald Trump are performing a turn-around re Ukraine. Macron said that as the US are abandoning Ukraine, it is the obligation for France and Europe to step in and defend Ukraine. Only a just peace will be acceptable for Ukraine, never its surrender.
Accusing President Putin of constantly breaking ceasefires in the past, Macron explains that Putin is not trustworthy and only the strongest military support of Ukraine will make sure that Putin will respect a ceasefire or a peace agreement. Macron again makes a case for European/NATO troops on the ground in Ukraine.
Macron admitted in this speech that the war did start in 2014 when he referred to Putin violating the ceasefire of the Minsk Agreements.
In the second part of his speech, Macron attackts the US and Trump directly, with the Ukraine matter as well as with regard to the new tariffs that Trump will impose on EU goods. Macron threatens the US to retaliate with French tariffs on US goods.
Macron dedicates time to explain to the French people that hard times are ahead, that the peaceful times of the last 30 years are gone, that Russia is a great threat to Europe and that the new tariffs will have a negative economic impact on all France.
Macron calls on all French to unite and to stand together to confront the new financial charges which will be enormous and harsh. Macron’s call is a call to the French to be prepared to pay the huge extra burden of a military build-up against Russia and a trade war with the US. Macron explains that the EU will, tomorrow, decide about the EURO 800 Billion extra debt and that also the French state will make more debts to pay for arms. So, the French people must be ready to shoulder huge extra debts and economic costs.
President Macron terminates his speech with a statement towards the liberties of expression and freedom of speech, reminding that Russia influences public opinion and elections in various ways and in many countriea, and saying that defeatists, hate-speech promoters and liars will no further be allowed to express themselves, a clear warning re any form of anti-propaganda, probably also a warning towards and an answer to US Vice-President Vance who slammed European states for suppressing free speech, a sacro-sanct American liberty.
