In an interview with FT, Polish President Duda warns of an explosion of crime to come to Europe and the US, once Ukraine collapses.
Duda calls for European protection measures. What kind of measures, he does not explain. For the public opinion in Europe and the US, the Ukrainian collapse was (until Trump’s inauguration) the unthinkable. The US and Europe pushed for Ukraine to win the war – but only recently, the new US government declared that it was dishonest of Biden’s and of allied governments to promise to the Ukrainians to win the war against Russia, to promise the impossible. Now, even the strong Ukraine war supporter Duda considers the Ukainian collapse a very likely sceario. And Duda is now trying to analyze what will be the consequences of the Ukrainian collapse. If the Ukrainian Army and State will collapse, a new, enormous migration wave will hit Western Europe, in particular, as under the existing immigration practice refugees from Ukraine have the right to settle in Europe (not anymore in the US) and also may obtain financial support (not further in the US). The EU and member states, as well as the UK, will be confronted with considerable additional refugee costs.
Returning Ukrainian troops, experienced in killing, after their demobilization will come to Europe (not to the US) and, according to Duda, organized crime will reach proportions in Europe which even the collapsed Soviet Union has not seen in the 90s.
Will the EU and the Western countries change their attitude to immigrating Ukrainians?
