In a show of force, EU countries have sent small army contingents to Greenland, as reconnaissance teams for a larger deployment.
At the same time, a Danish and Greenlandish delegation has had talks with top US officials and have not reached to any agreement.
Donald Trump insists that Greenland “must be controlled by the US”. The EU insists that Denmark shall keep its sovereign rights on its territory and that Greenland has its own limited sovereignty and freedom to decide over its future.
Many commentators are surprised about the new dispute between the US and the EU as Greenland is already bound by bilateral and international agreements to the US, which allows the US to station its military and far more.
On the other hand, the US has voiced its concern about Europe’s trustworthiness also in the future as Europe has been changing to the worse under mass immigration from unfriendly countries and under its own new ideological elites. As such, the US would probably demand now the control of Greenland in view of the discredited trustworthiness of Europe.
The deployment of EU soldiers to Greenland is a disturbing development. The Trump Administration may not positively react.
As Trump would say: “Europe has no cards in its hand”. A major but not officially mentioned bargaining element is of course Ukraine. If the EU is starting to build up a threat against the US in Greenland the US reaction may be to simply drop all remaining aid to Ukraine and to withdraw from Project Ukraine completely. Europe will be confronted to a devastating collapse of the Ukrainian army and state with horrific yet hardly imaginable consequences for all of Europe.
