Taurus cruise missiles are German missiles that are launched from fighter jets, but have their own propelling and pathfinding system. They are unmanned flight engines with pre-programmed flight data and targets.
Chancelor Scholz refused to provide Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles. Incoming Chancelor Merz consider now to send Taurus to Ukraine.
The matter is disputed. Russia argued that Germany will become a direct conflict party because the Taurus needs German specialists in Ukraine to handle, to program and to launch it. But the producer of the Taurus and other officials in Germany explain that Ukrainian soldiers can be trained for the Taurus and can handle and launch the missiles by themselves without German soldiers or specialists present in Ukraine.
Remains the question if programming by German specialists, even if done in Germany, could be seen as a German act of war against Russia.
