Israel’s surprise attack on Iran – nuclear facilities, commanders, scientists targeted, killed

A black day for the Middle East, for the World.

Israel attacked Iran by surprise in the night of 12 to 13 June. More than 200 fighter jets were used, each carrying one to two missiles, hitting with precise data their selected targets deep in Iran.

The shock was great. Reports come in about, in particular, politicians and military leaders being killed. Claims we’re made that also a number of scientist, necessary for Iran’s nuclear program, were killed. All reports may still need confirmation.

The main targets’ damages, Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities, are not known. These facilities are highly secured, deep in mountains or under the earth. It is said that they are very resistant to the strongest bombings, almost impossible to reach. The Busher nuclear plant, Iran’s first nuclear power station built by Russia, was also not hit.

The raid on Iran happened during the US, Israel and Iranian talks on reduction and control of Iran’s nuclear programs. Iran was accused to soon develop its own nuclear bomb, a matter for Israel and the US to absolutely eliminate. Israel would be at risk of Iran’s nuclear attack and the US may be involved in a nuclear conflict in the Middle East. And Russia offered intermediation and agreed to keep safe Iran’s excess enriched Uranium.

Now with the current attacks, the military conflict still remains on a conventional level. Israel has been equipped with modern US weapons and is probably largely superior to the Iranian army. In addition, Israel and the US cooperate on military and intelligence levels, while President Donald Trump has declared Iran a rogue state and enemy of the US. All of this will hardly be sufficient to defeat Iran, or to provoke a regime change in Iran. This last attack on Iran was probably just a nuisance, but not decisive.

The US has immediately after Israel’s raid declared not being involved – US Foreign Secretary Rubio gave a nightly statement. The World awaits a statement of Trump.

Iran has already started retaliation. About 100 drones were on their way to Israel. But such retaliation is not supposed to create great damage. Some of the drones were shot down by Jordan when they passed Jordanian air space.

The consequence of this latest Israeli air raid on Iran may be terrible, but may also just a disturbance of the current negotiations about Iran’s nuclear program. It is not expected that Iran’s well hidden and protected nuclear facilities have nee greatly damaged, but it is surely expected that Iran will push hard to get its first nuclear bomb available and will drop further negotiations. This latest air raid on Iran was, therefore, not in Israel’s and Israel’s population best interest – unless Israel’s interests are different.

Iran has called for an urgent UN Security Meeting on the attack. The World oil prices have sharply risen.

The story is developing and the World awaits information about the real damages in Iran and the ways Iran will retaliate.
