Istanbul has been a hub of spies for centuries, so negotiators are right to watch what they eat – Do Trump and Putin know?

Already in 2022, just after the outbreak of the Ukrainian conflict and while negotiations were taking there place between Ukraine and Russia, I News, an UK paper, warned that Istanbul is full of spies.

Indeed, Istanbul has become, again, an international hub, for transport, travel, business and politics. The 2022 Ukraine – Russia negotiations were famously held in Istanbul, as the follow up meetings between the US and Russia in 2025.

There are all sorts of spies in Istanbul, some not welcome like the Mossad which were caught and sentenced to long prison terms. Some other spies are tolerated, such as those from the US, probably as well the Russians and the Ukrainians, as long as they do not touch internal politics – which was not always the case considering the US involvement in the 2016 (Obama’s) putsch against President Erdogan.

Today there must be armies of spies in Istanbul, foreign specialists, even from Europe and the UK.

With the presence of such armies of spies it is hard to imagine that Turkey is able to guarantee for the security when three presidents will arrive, V Selensky, President Trump and President Putin.

According to earlier rumors, there are certain countries who target Putin and Trump and would not hesitate to perform terror attacks against them. Rumors tell that Ukraine was somehow at least aware of the planned attack on Trump during his golf play when he still was candidate. And the Ukrainian secret services are more than eager, and declare this to the public, to murder Putin, like they did with many people in the streets of Moscow.

Therefore, and considering the total chaotic situation in Istanbul after the latest arrest of the mayor and main opposition figure which triggered mass protests, it may be not really recommendable for either Trump or Putin to take the risk to travel to Istanbul and to take part in negotiations.

It is not only about watching what they eat in Istanbul, it is probably much more of a danger.
