Kyiv probes leak of US minerals deal with polygraph tests – FT

V Selensky has ordered the Ukrainian security services to investigate who has leaked the latest draft of the Minerals Deal with the US.

It is certainly no fun to be investigated by the Ukrainian security services, also because of their methods. Probably these methods are not limited to a lie detector.

Selensky was negative against the Minerals Deal, from the beginning. He said that Ukraine owes nothing to the US. The new draft of the same agreement hit him and his elite like a bomb shell. This new draft was much more far reaching, demanding the inclusion of many more resources and required US control instead of shared control.

As well, the US is not willing to provide security guarantees to Ukraine. The US claims that big US investments into Ukraine with regard to the Minerals Deal will be sufficient security for Ukraine.

And this may be logical. The US under Obama/Biden were the motor of the war in Ukraine, of NATO’s eastward expansion, the Maidan putsch and the Project Ukraine. If the US revers course and will declare to desist from aggressive policies and military expansion towards Russia, but would instead peacefully take over and develop Ukrainian resources while investing billions, there will be a certain level of common interests of both, Russia and the US. US would not endanger its investments with a military presence in Ukraine that will be attacked by Russia. Russia made clear that any NATO troops in Ukraine are legitimate targets. Russia would be agreeable to US peaceful investments without threats in Ukraine.

As such, it was really disturbing to Selensky that the final Minerals Deal draft was leaked and that he had no further possibility to negotiate it in secret. Take it or leave it, that are his options.
