French President Macron in concert with other World leaders demands for a retaliation against the new US tariffs on goods to import to the US. The French industry is particularly exposed to these 20% tariffs, for cars 25%.
As well, Macron demands that French industry suspends all investments into the US.
Canada has already retaliated by imposing 25% on US cars. Europe is preparing for a response as well. The UK is considering of a response is needed.
The US new tariffs may feel in some countries like sanctions. Industries, such as the German car industry, are already suffering because of wrong Green and other local or EU policies. The new tariffs will be a terrible hit. What is a liberation day for the US may turn out to be for some countries an incarceration day.
While the US, for decades did not charge tariffs on imports from, in particular, allied countries, the new US tariffs will create important disruptions, worldwide and also in the US. If countries decide to retaliate, an escalation of what some expect to be a trade war may be the result.
