Various news report that President Macron and President Putin had today, 1st July, a 2 hours long phone call, the first call since 2022, the year of the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine.
Macron demanded in today’s phone call that Putin agrees to an immediate, unconditional cease fire and to have peace negotiations.
According to Euronews, “Putin reiterated his position to Macron that the war in Ukraine was “a direct consequence of the West’s policy,” which he said had “ignored Russia’s security interests.”
Any peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv should include a “comprehensive and long-term character” and be based on “new territorial realities,” the Kremlin quoted Putin as saying.”
As a result of the phone call, the Presidents did not approach, but simply repeated the known views and demands.
Macron seemingly “emphasised France’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.” This statement can only be construed as a threat.
At least they talk, and agreed to have further talks.
