The Gaza strip was part of the Ottoman Empire till 1918. After WWI, the UK took control of it, the first settlement of Jews in Palestine started then. After WWII and the foundation of Israel, Gaza belonged to Egypt. After the war Israel-Egypt 1967, Gaza belonged to Israel, Israeli settlements in Gaza were created. In 2005, Israel allowed Gaza to become autonomous, all Jews left Gaza and Hamas took control while Israel kept the oversight. 30 % of the land in Gaza is private property, the rest is owned by the Gaza Authority, refugee camps, or is blocked for security, no-man`s land etc. Considering the large non-private area, there may be a deal for the US to buy and develop. Privately owned land may be resettled by owners or sold. Gaza, while autonomous, was never sovereign, therefore, there may be legal options with regard to long-term US control. A Gaza inclusion in a 2 states solution will not be realistic for long time. With ongoing US led developments, Palestinians may soon return. Security will remain the main issue.
