In the highly dangerous moment of nuclear escalation, Putin will meet Donald Trump’s Special Envoy Wittkoff in Moscow.
Trump sent his Special Envoy to talk to the Russian side over the conflict in Ukraine and about the deadline set by Trump for an unconditional ceasefire.
Russia has not accepted an unconditional ceasefire as it fears that such ceasefire will be used to rearm and reposition Ukraine’s failing army and, in the worst case, to deploy NATO troops in Ukraine. Russia has a clear vision what it wants to achieve and explained it since long to the US negotiators, but NATO wants to absorb Ukraine in a kind of defeat for Russia.
Therefore, a ceasefire with such opposite positions seems impossible and an escalation programmed – as it now appears with Trump’s order to re-position US submarines into attack positions against Russia.
Russia is still adherent to diplomacy and is allowing all discussions and visits of US negotiators to Moscow. In an extra-ordinary move the Kremlin did now state that President Putin could meet V Selensky once the “preparatory work” is done. It looks like a real Russian move but still it is subject to yet unspecified conditions.
So far, Putin explained that he considers Selensky occupying illegally the presidency of Ukraine and that agreements signed with Selensky risk to have no value. Therefore, Putin did not expect to meet Selensky and always asked for what this would be good, in particular, as no understanding what so ever was reached between US, Ukraine and Russia.
