Great news: the leaders of the US and Russia are able to talk on the phone about a serious developing crisis.
President Putin and President Trump held a phone talk for about 50 minutes today, Reuters reports, referring to the Russian Government which was later confirmed by Trump’s Truth Social post.
Trump and Putin talked about the escalating Israel-Iran War. Putin condemned the Israeli attack on Iran.
Both leaders agreed that deescalation is the preferred outcome and that Iran shall return to the negotiation table about its nuclear armament program.
Trump and Putin expressed their demands for a rapid end of the war in Ukraine, whereas Putin confirmed that there shall be further negotiations with Ukraine scheduled for the 22 June.
Considering that the US is in a proxy war with Russia re Ukraine, it is already a very positive sign that both leaders were able to hold a serious discussion about the current crisis situation.
It seems that Trump wanted to be sure that Russia would not intervene in the Israeli-Iranian War. It also seems that Putin himself did not express Russia’s intention to intervene.
