German Economy Minister Habeck, still in his position for a short time – as he and his party the Greens have been dismissed by the voters – declared that it would be the “wrong direction” to talk about operating Nord Stream 2 again, the gas pipeline that was bombed in 2022. One pipe of it may be put into operation easily, the other pipe may be repaired. Rumors of US interests in the pipeline are all over the news – but the main political actors have, so far, declined any interest or willingness to proceed with the reinstatement of the pipelines. It is highly probable that the Nord Stream pipelines will be a discussion point between Presidents Trump and Putin. It may be realistic to consider that the US have an interest in a controlling stake in the pipelines, for commercial and geo-political reasons. Germany must have an interest, too. Cheaper gas is essential for the economic wellbeing of Germany. Therefore, it may not be excluded that with a ceasefire realized in Ukraine, certain talks about Nord Stream will be made public.
