Rubio Says Trump Will Decide This Week on Continuing Ukraine War Talks

US Foreign Secretary Marco Rubio said that this week of 28 April 2025 will be important for President Trump’s decision on the continuation of peace talks in Ukraine.

Rubio also said that the US has other matters to deal with and that Ukraine may not be further a main point of interest for the US. Therefore, Trump and Rubio suggested that the US shall withdraw from Ukraine and leave the developments in the hands of Ukraine’s leadership and those European leaders who are actively supporting Ukraine fighting Russia, with money, weapons and troops.

Donald Trump does not see any advantage in prolonging the war in Ukraine and is ready to leave the Russians with those advantages they have been fighting for since 3 years, as Trump knows that Moscow will not abandon a meter without excessive military force. Russia, so Trump, has all the cards in its hands, and it would need an extraordinary combined military effort for the US, NATO and Europe to push back Russia with the risk of provoking nuclear WWIII. The risk of a nuclear conflict was already estimated by NATO and the US at 50%.

Just over the last weekend, Trump claimed optimistically that Russia and Ukraine are close to a peace agreement which Trump suggested.  But Trump also threatened Russia again with new sanctions if no peace deal will be signed in shortest period.

Trump is know that he prefers the normalization of US-Russia relations, that he would envisage economic cooperation and also turn Russia away from China, as China has been designated the greater threat for the US.

A US withdrawal will result in a quick collapse of Ukraine, the surrender of Ukraine will be completely, and Ukriane will lose much more than what would be lost under Trump’s peace agreement. The European leaders claim that it is unfair of the US to withdraw from Ukaine, also in the view that the US was leading the war in Ukraine. Europe is afraid of costs and consequences of a Ukrainian collapse and officially claims that Europe’s security will be compromised.
