What is the fuzz about V Selensky submitting the Ukrainian independent anti-corruption authority under his control?
In 2014, in the context of the Western sponsored Maidan-Putsch, the Western powers, the US and European governments insisted to control the enormous corruption in Ukraine before they would put any money into the corruption plagued country.
The Western sponsors of the Maidan-Coup insisted on an independent agency for corruption control in Ukraine – independent in so far as this agency should be outside of the power and influence of the government and judidicial bodies of Ukraine, which are anyway suspected of being completely corrupt.
As well, in such a corrupt environment, the independent corruption investigator can be considered as a powerful political tool, an inquisitor against the most powerful actors in Ukraine. No doubt that these corruption inquistors were protected, paid and guided by the Western sponsors of the Maidan-Putsch and therefore, the West, all at first the US, had the powerful hand on all what was going on in Ukraine, inclusive of keeping some excellent secret files on every politician, businessman, state official.
This powerful, Western run corruption inquisitor was certainly respected and accommodated in Ukraine as long as it was run by the Selensky friendly Biden Administration that allowed the “motivational corruption” in Ukraine. Since Donald Trump took over the Ukraine Project and repeats oftenly that Ukraine embezzled US funds, the independent corruption investigator is, at least, not further welcome by Selensky and his elites. It is therefore, understandable, that Selensky, by a swift and shadowy legislative act, took over the control of the Corruption Inquisitor – at least he and his elites were meant to be on the safe side against Trump’s controlling arm.
But Selensky has forgotten that the US still sponsors some NGOs in Ukraine. It was also a matter of European interest, in particular, of those countries that critically regard Ukraine’s EU accession. All of them do have some NGO activists in Ukraine. Therefore, it was easy and quick to send out some NGO activists to the streets of Kiev to protest against Selensky and his power grab. The Kiev mayor Klitschko, a stark adversary of Selensky cooperating with the Trump Administration, was a helping hand to bring some protesters for the international media to the streets. The protests were mentioned in the Ukraine war press, but not importantly, which is also understandable, as Ukraine continues to be portrayed as haven of democracy, of freedom and rule of law where corruption may not be worth of being mentioned.
Of course, the numbers of protesters were rather small and did not represent any danger for Selensky. Nevertheless, he seems to feel the anger of the Trump Administration as Selensky is trying to evade US total control, at least on matters of self-interest of the ruling elites. Are Selensky and his regime afraid that Trump would use the powerful tool of the corruption inquisition against them?
