Bild writes that today’s video-confernece is a signal that Europe stands united behind Selensky.
Chancellor Merz returned from his summer holidays to meet V Selensky in Berlin, both will take part at the video-conference to which are invited European leaders and, as well, US President Donald Trump.
Merz called for this video-conference and titled it a “preparation for the Trump-Putin meeting on Friday”.
This Merz video-confernece initiative is designed to oppose to Donald Trump’s settlement suggestions to terminate the Ukraine conflict. Merz and other European leaders oppose to the territorial solution in Ukraine and have Selensky loudly appearing in all available European media, including Bild. Trump did not yet specify to which extent he agrees that territory is ceded to Russia. Putin demands the 4 Oblasts, Crimea and may retreat from some places.
As well, the Europeans still demand from the US the provision of security guarantees for the time after the war. Russia excludes any NATO membership or NATO presence in rest-Ukraine. This is one of the causes of war in Ukraine and Russia’s important security concern.
This video-confernce called two days before the Alaska meeting between Trump and Putin reminds a rather hysterical PR action, to reiterate the talking points of Selensky and of some European leaders. It will certainly not help them to open their access to the bilateral discussions between the US and Russia, both countries being now on their way to peace and stability.
As Trump said yesterday: if the Europeans want to continue the war, good luck. And as his Vice-President Vance said the day before: the US is done with the war business in Ukraine.
Therefore, there are good chances for a rapid end to Biden’s war and the termination of Project Ukraine, hoping that the US and European relations with Russia will get better soon.
