Smartphones and computers and other electronic products are now exempt from US tariffs.

The IPhone is produced in China and would be subject to a 145% tariff on import.

This move happened for the reason that most of those smartphones and computers produced in China and destined to the US are US products of US companies. For the IPhone producer Apple, the China tariffs are disastrous. Of course, this move will also reduce the every day expenses of the US consumers.

This exemption is now declared, by the anti-Trump press such as CNN, as weakness. No. It is rather a realistic approach to support US firms such as Apple.
