Spiegel: Von der Leyen proposes EURO 800 Billion Additional EU Military Spending

The Head of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed an urgent increase of defense spending by EUR 800 billion, with a special fund of EUR 150 billion provided by the EU.
Leyen considers it an urgency to increase all EU members’ budgets as, after a possible withdrawal of the US from Europe, EU countries must be prepared to defend Ukraine against Russia alone. The EUR 800 billion suggestion is a direct response to US’ stopping Ukraine aid. It is a defiant reaction and aggressive towards the US and an evidence that Europe intends to continue military aid in place of the US, prolonging the war in Ukraine.
