The Guardian: China and Canada retaliate after Trump trade tariffs come into effect

As expected, China and Canada imposed tariffs on imports from the US after Donald Trump imposes 25% tariffs on Chinese/Canadian goods.
US goods to Canada will become more expensive for Canadian consumers. Same for Chinese consumers. It remains to follow up if Canadian and Chinese consumer can substitute US products with local or other imported products.
Donald Trump has already called US consumers to consume home-grown and home-produced products and avoid the now more expensive foreign products. Business are awaiting the reaction of Mexico to which new US tariffs also apply.
The UK and the EU are facing the same challenge and will probably be charged with US import tariffs in the near future – a very hard matter for the already struggling European economies.
