Referring to a Reuters report that open source maps show Ukrainian situation in Russian region has deteriorated sharply in recent days after Moscow’s counteroffensive in the Kursk area. The Kursk adventure of the Ukrainian army seems to end. “About three-quarters of the Ukrainian force inside Russia was now almost completely encircled, according to the open source mapping on Friday from Deep State, an authoritative Ukrainian military blogging resource.” The Kursk operation was a successful propaganda move. Ukraine sent thousands of soldiers into a small area of Russia bordering Ukraine, but originally with the aim to seize the Kursk nuclear power plant. As this seizure failed, the Ukrainian troops occupied several towns and villages in the border region. In these settlement, still Russian civilians were living and not evacuated, a problem for the Russian army to liberate the towns by force and putting in danger their own Russian population. Russian civilians were used as shields. The Russians recapture step by step the occupied areas, with limited military force but with encircling tactic. The Russian government, in the meantime, published reports of cruelty against the local population accusing Ukraine of war crimes.
