The Guardian: Trump calls Zelenskyy a ‘dictator’ who should ‘move fast’ or lose country as row with Ukraine leader worsens

The war of words between V Selensky and the Trump Administration escalates.

Selensky said publicly that Donald Trump “lives in a disinformation bubble”, Trump returned by calling him a “dictator”. So far, so good. The problem is the media, mainly or exclusively the Kamala Harris supportive media, or, if not all but some, the media that was for years paid by the Obama/Biden administrations. This media is loudly accusing Trump, defending Selensky and hindering the peace process. This media is amplifying the discord between Trump and Selensky while totally disregarding facts:
What did Trump really say? He did not say that Selensky was responsible for the outbreak of the war. The war in Ukraine started in 2014, following the Maidan Putsch, when the nationalist army attacked the Russian speaking separatist Donbass areas. Remind, since 2014, a minimum 14’000 Russians died in the Donbass under Ukrainain nationalist bombing, uncountable wounded.
The war in Ukraine started in 2014. Point. Selensky was then still a Russian speaking clown.
From 2014 to 2022 the war continued mainly in the Donbass area.
What happened before 2014? Already in 2004, a popular uprising successfully called for repeated elections: Organge Revolution sponsored by the US. The popular leaders did not stay for long and the Russia oriented President (Yanukovich) who was dismissed by the 2004 Orange reelection was elected finally President of Ukraine in 2010. All the movements from 2004 to 2014 were supported by the US and some European countries. The election of Yanukovich triggered fews years later the Maidan Putsch with US and European help. This was the fulfillment of the plan to bring Ukraine into NATO, the so called Project Ukraine … initiated already by the US under Busch/Cheney. Already in these early years, Russian President Putin warned the US not to proceed with Project Ukraine.
Even though, under Obama/Biden the US proceeded with Project Ukraine, staged the Maidan coup, followed by the war in Ukraine starting in the Donbass in the same year 2014.
That’s facts. Point.
The situation in Ukraine became critical as many people were killed in the Donbass under Ukrainian nationalist bombing. Putin was acting, sending already irregular troops to the Donbass, and he was calling for negotiations – and finally the Minsk Agreements were reached in 2015. But the Ukrainian side did not implement the Minsk Agreements, and the signatory leaders Chancellor Merkel and President Hollande witnessed that the West and Ukraine never intended to implement the Minsk Agreements (even with UN Security Council approval) but to gain time for building up a strong, NATO trained Ukrainian army. With the Minsk Agreements signed, the Russian side appeased, Biden replacing Trump as President in 2021, the Biden Administration was speeding up the delivery of arms to Ukraine and Biden and other European leaders were pushing for the rapid NATO integration of Ukraine. After an unsuccessful meeting between Biden/Putin in autumn 2021 and the continuation of arms and missile shipment, the build up in Ukraine of US and UK intelligence, bioarms labs and attack capacities, Putin ordered in February 2022 the invasion of Ukraine with a very small Russian contingent, insufficient to occupy large territories or even a large city like Kiev. This invasion, rather a warning signal, was never intended to occupy Ukraine but an invitation to settle. The dispute continues till today if this limited Russian invasion was justified (by the build up of the Ukrainian army with US weapons and training, with the evident target to smash the separatists, with potential genocide or ethnic cleansing in the Donbass) or unjustified and an act of war contradicting international law.
Nevertheless, very quickly after the 2022 invasion, Ukraine and Russia signed the Istanbul Agreements, and Ukraine agreed to stop the war making some concessions in favor of the Russian separatist population, and also with regard to its neutrality.
But here comes the point: Selensky did not implement the Minsk Agreements when he was elected President in 2019, and also he did not want to implement the Istanbul Agreements. Why? Whatever promises, favors or payments, or help he received from the US, UK (Boris Johnson), EU or NATO is certainly relevant for Selensky’s personal decision, but it was Selensky alone who decided not to make a deal with Russia, not to implement the Minsk Agreements, and not to implement the Istanbul Agreement. Selensky is therfore, the main responsible person for the continuation and aggravation of the war, as he refused two occasions for a real deal. He did not want peace twice and gambled to win a war he never could win.
That’s what Trump wanted to say. And the anti-Trump media must finally concede to these facts and the truth.

With regard to Selenky’s qualification as “dictator”: It is more than evident that Selensky is a failed dictator. With Biden’s support, Selensky was a puppet strongman, eliminating opposition, church and canceling elections. Now, without Biden, without the billions and weapons from the US and with the unsecured supply from Europe, favors from the Ukrainian elite are lost and political attacks and demands for elections, and even threats of a military coup are rising. He tries still a dictatorial style (in Munich Selensky said “Unity is more important than Elections”) but that’s it. Donald Trump calls him “a dictator without elections” and obviously that’s pretty much true. Just remember that in 2019 Selensky was elected by a reduced population, the decisive Donbass not able or allowed to vote. Was Selensky really democratically elected while excluding the decisive votes from Russian voters in Eastern Ukraine? The clown Selensky, a wannabe dictator left alone, will be the sad victim of a home grown coup. Would have been a great role for Charly Chaplin?

President Trump’s message on Truth Social, 19 February 2025, a clear statement and summary of facts, an evident disapproval of V Selensky:

https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114031332924234939

“Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 Billion Dollars, to go into a War that couldn’t be won, that never had to start, but a War that he, without the U.S. and “TRUMP,” will never be able to settle. The United States has spent $200 Billion Dollars more than Europe, and Europe’s money is guaranteed, while the United States will get nothing back. Why didn’t Sleepy Joe Biden demand Equalization, in that this War is far more important to Europe than it is to us — We have a big, beautiful Ocean as separation. On top of this, Zelenskyy admits that half of the money we sent him is “MISSING.” He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden “like a fiddle.” A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left. In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the War with Russia, something all admit only “TRUMP,” and the Trump Administration, can do. Biden never tried, Europe has failed to bring Peace, and Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the “gravy train” going. I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his Country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died – And so it continues…..”
