The Guardian: Ukraine agrees to accept ‘immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire’

The Guardian reports as one of the first news outlets of the Ukrainian acceptance of a ceasefire for 30 days. No further details are known. The US accepted to provide to Ukraine further intelligence (which probably never was stopped) and security. The details of what is meant by “security” is not further specified but it seems to be full military aid as before.
The US will revert to Russia to implement the ceasefire and to commence negotiations for a peace agreement.
President Putin outlined Russia’s terms for a ceasefire and negotiations already in June 2024. He said that Russia must be allowed to keep all the land it occupies, and be handed all of the provinces that it claims but does not fully control. He also said that Ukraine must officially end its plans to join NATO. If NATO or European troops are deployed in Ukraine, they will become targets and this will hinder a ceasefire or peace, Russia said.
Russia is actually on the move allover the front. A ceasefire at this moment is not in Russia’s best interest, unless surrounding conditions allow Russia to keep its actual advantage. If Russia would not accept a ceasefire at Ukrainian or US conditions, what will be the consequences expected from the US side. Seemingly, it will be for Russia the moment to evaluate its advantages/disadvantages and make a reasonable “cost/profit” decision. Still this January, President Putin said that “the goal should not be a short truce, not some kind of respite for regrouping forces and rearmament with the aim of subsequently continuing the conflict, but a long-term peace based on respect for the legitimate interests of all people, all nations living in this region”.
The main issue remains the trust. Both Russia and Ukraine, in the past, accused each other having broken ceasefire engagements. As well, Russia may not be able to trust the US (less even the EU/UK) as they are basically on Ukraine’s side, using Ukraine as their proxy (as confirmed by Marco Rubio a few days ago).
But a ceasefire must be – the killing, destruction and suffering must stop now. If the US is suddenly an honest broker, they will consider Russia’s interests as well.
Awaiting therefore, Moscow’s response.
