The Times’ Story about Ukraine’s failed Counter-Offensive 2023 and the UK’s Role and Deep Involvement

The Times, in a major article, describes the deep involvement of the UK in the war in Ukraine against Russia. The truth, which was generally known before, is now confirmed in detail.

The UK was essential in the 2023 counter-offensive against Russia. Already in 2023, the US was unhappy about Ukraine’s performances on the battlefield. The General Zalushny, army commander, did not want to send all his troops against the Russian defense lines at once, knowing he would sacrifice the greatest number of his soldiers. The US demanded to crush the Russian defense lines at a single point but the Ukrainian commander refused and also did not withdraw troops from other positions. The US insisted but Ukraine refused.

In this 2023 scenario, the UK, understanding that the relationship and trust between Ukraine and the US was at a low point, took over the military leadership, sent troops and commanders, technicians – always in safe distance – but with clear missions. The UK was deeply involved fighting Russia – the public did not know with certainty about these covert operations until the recent Times article.

But the 2023 Ukrainian counter-offensive completely failed and costed terribly many Ukrainian lifes. The General Zalushny was fired and sent to the UK as ambassador.

As well, the US did not approve Ukraine’s move into Kursk: but the UK did and helped further, sacrificing tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers. Donald Trump called upon President Putin to spare the lives of the trapped Ukrainian soldiers, but the Ukrainian commander, pushed by the UK, did not want to give up in Ukraine. The number of Ukrainian deaths 2024 is close to those of the Wehrmacht in the Kursk battle 1942 – Russia defeated its enemy.

Since 2023, the Ukrainian positions deteriorated and with the election of Donald Trump, Ukraines fate was decided.

The UK still keeps a special relationship with Ukraine and provides important strategic and military aid and command. Russia knows, Putin understands and the Russian public reads the news published in the Times. The matter will be a heavy charge for the future relationship between Russia and the UK for generations.

While Russian public opinion signals an understanding that the US implication in Ukraine was due to the past Democrat Administration of Obama/Biden and some hardline neocons, the Russian public would accept today that the US under Donald Trump has changed and want to normalize relationships. But the UK has not merited such acceptance yet by the Russian public opinion. Russia acknowledges that the UK wants to continue the war, that it still is involved deeply and has no intention to withdraw. There is a tendency of demonization of the UK in Russia and the UK can become easily a justified target for Russia. On the other hand, the EU and Germany are not taken for serious when their war efforts are commented in the Russian news and statements, while the Russian media points to the dissenting opinions of Hungary, Slovakia and others. As such, there could be still an open door for a new relationship building between Russia and some European countries whereas the future relationship between Germany and Russia, also in view of WWII has reached a historic low point of no return. German tanks rolling against Russia driven by Ukrainian HIWIS, the scenario known in WWII and never forgotten by Russia.
