Russia agreed to immediately stop attacks on infrastructure and energy, provided Ukrainians do the same. This is an important step to protect the civilians in both countries. Unless they are close to the battle zone or to areas of military assemblies, depots or weapons, civilians may be safe. Civilians shall be now out of reach under the partial ceasefire … it would be a grave violation of Ukraine’s or Russia’s duty towards their own populations if civilians are still kept near war zones. The war on the ground will continue all over the contact line, Russia pushing forward to gain the territories targeted, expelling Ukrainian troops from Russia’s mainland. This partial ceasefire is a test. It must be supported by all parties involved, the US, EU and the Europeans, as well as any other country of the “coalition of the willing”.
