Earlier last week the press reported that the US decided to stop negotiations with Russia about ending the war in Ukraine. This message was given by a high ranking staff of the US Foreign Department.
Donald Trump seems not to follow the idea of an immediate abandon of negotiations but still keeps warning that he will stop talking with Russia if Russia is not moving towards a peace agreement.
The role of the US President is that of a middleman between Ukraine and Russia, while the US still supports Ukraine in all matters to fight the war against Russia.
As such, it is understandable that Russia, of course, is happy to talk to the US Administration but Russia seems also reserved with regard to the “independent” broker role of Donald Trump.
As long as Russia is confident to reach its goals in Ukraine, a ceasefire or peace agreement seem to be illusory unless the Russian conditions are fulfilled.
