International press confirms that Donald Trump will speak to President Putin and V Selensky today.
Russia’s Tass confirmed that the Trump-Putin talk is planned for today at 5pm Moscow time (first thing in the morning US time). It is expected that Trump will call Selensky thereafter.
The high profile phone conference is about a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict. Ukraine insists on an unconditional ceasefire, Russia demands that its conditions are respected.
History shows hardly examples of unconditional ceasefire (unless for a very short period, eg Christmas during WWI). Usually, a ceasefire is leading either to a peace agreement or to capitulation. Neither scenario can be observed at the moment in Ukraine, negotiations for a peace agreement have not started yet and neither party seems not to be heading for capitulation.
Of course, the situation of Ukraine is more difficult, as Ukraine depends 100% on foreign aid. In particular, the main sponsor of Ukraine, the US, shows much less interest in paying for Ukraine’s war. Therefore, Ukraine has been described, by its own head of secret services as close to collapse, predicted for summer.
