Yesterday, President Donald Trump demanded from Russia to MAKE A DEAL without even mentioning Ukraine.
Today V Selensky intevenes, while in Davos, and demands and insists that any deal needs Ukraine’s participation
It becomes more and more unlikely that Ukraine will have a say regarding a deal which will be agreed between Russia and the US. It becomes visible that Donald Trump aimes to exclude, in particular, Selensky from such negotiations and deal making.
It is also hardly possible that Vladimir Putin accepts the presence of Selensky at any negotiation table. Putin made clear earlier that besides a settlement of the Ukrainian matter, he expects a broader resolution of security issues in Europe and globally. Putin aims at a new security order in the World while he thinks Ukraine is irrelevant. With regard to Selensky, Putin declared several times Selensky being irrelevant as Selensky remains without constitutional powers.
The fact that Selensky now demands US leadership in a large peacekeeping force in Ukraine will make the leaders of the US and Russia shake their heads: hardly Trump will ever send US troops to Ukraine, and even less realistic will it be to obtain Putin’s agreement to a NATO troop build-up in Ukraine.
It is time for realism in this conflict and it is time that the two main powers involved in Ukraine speak to each other directly.
