Ukraine allies meet to ‘pile pressure’ on Putin as Trump envoy lands in Moscow and UK pays another £450 million to Ukraine

The meeting of 50 countries today in Brussels was usually held before at the US airbase in Ramstein and was headed by the US. It might have lost its relevance without US participation.

The US was the main sponsor of the conflict in Ukraine, using Ukraine as a proxy against Russia. The Trump Administration seemingly admits that the Project Ukraine, the regime change in Ukraine for the NATO eastward enlargement into Ukraine has failed and further acting in this direction will be too costly and risks an escalation to WWIII.

Donald Trump prefers to negotiate and normalize the relationship with Russia, understanding that Project Ukraine has no future.

UK, France and the 50 other countries seem to be willing to increase pressure on Russia, by sending money, weapons, instructors and even military personnel to Ukraine, in the current war situation. It seems that also Trump is sending the last remaining budget to Ukraine, to keep pressure on Russia for reaching a deal.

Russia, on the other side, even though the winter is not gone and the conditions are muddy and difficult, is moving ahead, in small steps, taking village by village from a territory it claims. At the same time, Russia seems to keep a partial cease fire on energy infrastructure while heavily bombing other targets in Ukraine.

Russia has put forward certain conditions for a ceasefire, in particular, that the ceasefire shall not be used by Ukraine to rearm and reposition for new attacks. Russia has set out also conditions for a lasting peace, demanding that the root causes of the conflict shall be eliminated.

The US is negotiating with Russia on many matters and it is great that they speak. Europe, under UK and French leadership, seems to play the bad cops in this long way to peace.
