The Ukrainian Parliament probably will vote today for a new law that will reinstate the independence of the Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies.
V Selensky, a week ago, has abolished their independence by pushing a fast law through parliament. This usurpation of power has resulted in street protests in Ukraine, and subsequent protests of Selensky’s Western sponsors who immediately stopped some payments to the Selensky regime.
Maybe it was the money that convinced Selensky to reverse course. Now today, he wants his loyal parliament to vote to reinstate the independence of the corruption fighters, a parliament of which at least 30 members are under investigation for corruption.
At the same time, the parliament will vote on the introduction of lie detectors for higher state officials the Swiss Tagesanzeiger reports:
In particular, these lie detectors will be applied to those officials that are further again “independently” fighting corruption. If they do not pass the lies test, they will be “eliminated “. Indeed, this lie detector will help the Selensky loyalists to be protected against the independent corruption agencies …
What the public does not know: at the same time, when suppressing the independence of the anti-corruption agencies, Selensky also destroyed the independent Office for the Fight against Tax and Economic Crimes: Selensky simply refuses to appoint the new leader of that Office.
The German Tagesschau’s opinion is disastrous: even if Selensky fixes the anti-corruption units independence, somehow, he does not demonstrate that he takes the fight against corruption seriously. The Tagesschau concludes that Ukriane is not ready for EU accession.
