Ukraine’s insufficent air defense

The air attacks between Russia and Ukraine continue daily.

Russia and Ukraine attack each other with drones, missiles and many injured and killed resulting thereof on both sides. Ukrainian attacks with civilian casualties happen mainly in the Donbass or Russia’s borderlands. Russian attacks target all of Ukraine, with injured and killed in various cities. It is a continued quid pro quo.

It appears that Ukraine’s air defense is exhausted and comes to an end. Russia has greatly increased the production of drones and missiles and clearly has the avbantage in the air. Russia controls the air space over Ukraine. Russia is also steadily advancing on the ground where the Ukrainian front retreats and may collapse any day.

Ukraine’s Western sponsors are discussing how and who shall provide more air defense systems to Ukraine. None of the European sponsors has any further systems available. The US under Donald Trump seems to hesitate to provide weapons to Ukraine at all, while Donald Trump is open to sell a Patriot system or two to NATO, at NATO’s free disposal to forward it to Kiev. Also the US cannot dispose easily of its weapons stocks in view of other existing or potential conflicts, with Iran, in the Middle East or Far East.

Ukraine, according to a today’s report of CNN, said that it needs 10 Patriot systems, which each costs USD 1 billion. Selensky and his government continue to demand endlessly for money and weapons …

Today, this Monday 14 July, the German Defense Minister Pistorius, a Ukraine war hardliner, and NATO General Secretary Rutte are in Washington, to meet the US Defense Secretary Hegseth and President Trump respectively. They openly and publicly demanded for US to provide weapons.

Trump is expected to give a statement today, Monday evening.

It appears that the US under Trump remains the decisive party in the war against Russia, despite the many declarations of Trump to withdraw from Biden’s War. Trump seemingly is under immense internal and external pressure to continue to support Ukraine and to keep the war going on, to avoid a Russian victory. Will Trump resist that pressure and how?

Developping story.
