News reports: EU ambassadors have agreed on the 17th package of economic sanctions against Russia. The restrictions were suddenly supported by Hungary and Slovakia, which often blocked the adoption of sanctions, Euractiv reports.
Hungary and Slovakia reportedly did not block the new, 17th sanction package of the EU, as it is almost irrelevant and weak. President Putin of Russia yesterday reportedly gave his opinion to those EU sanctions, saying that it is not clever (using other words) that Europe is harming itself.
Of course, other EU countries reserve the right to adopt individual sanctions at their pleasure.
It remains questionable if Russia is impressed by this new sanctions package or if Russia would use this as an argument not to attend the Istanbul peace negotiations. A comment from the Kremlin and the White House regarding these new EU sanctions is expected.
