Yahoo: Ukraine losing the war in Kursk

Ukraine marched last year into Russia’s Kursk region to capture the Kursk nuclear power plant in an effort to have at hand a dangerous weapon: a nuclear plant to be transformed into a nuclear bomb. This endeavor failed. But the Ukrainian army was able to occupy some border towns and villages in the Kursk region.
These settlements were still inhabited by Russian civilians. Ukraine did not allow their evacuation, keeping the civilians as shields. This strategy slowed down the Russians to retake the invaded towns. But the Russians proceeded step by step. Russian civilians had still to die, either through unfortunate war action as collateral damages, or at the hands of revengeful Ukrainians. But today, Kursk has been retaken, just up to 1% of its territory remaining occupied. The Ukrainian’s Kursk gamble, a proxy operation for the Biden Administration and some European leaders, has failed.
Yahoo explains that “Kyiv has hoped to use its control of part of Kursk in future negotiations with Russia as part of a possible territorial swap.
If Moscow prevails in the latest operation to drive Ukraine out of Russian territory, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky will not have that card to play
And, more importantly, the loss of Kursk areas will be a big blow to Ukraine’s war propaganda. It will be a motivation shock for Ukraine.
And: how many soldiers had to die for this gamble … which was destined to fail?
